About

I am an arts writer and editor based between Brooklyn and Los Angeles, and have worked as the Art Books section editor at the Brooklyn Rail for over five years.

My research focus is artists’ books and publishing. Over the years I’ve profiled numerous organizations in this field, such as Center for Book Arts, Printed Matter, Franklin Furnace, and Siglio Press. I’ve interviewed artists across the spectrum of publishing and art book practices including Chitra Ganesh, Tammy Nguyen, Leslie Hewitt, and Sabra Moore. I’ve written general interest catalogue essays on the field, and more specialized looks at trends in artists’ publishing, such as the rise in published sketchbook facsimilies and the importance of collaboration and resource sharing.

In 2023, I curated a traveling exhibition of historical artists' books, Craft & Conceptual Art: Reshaping the Legacy of Artists’ Books, organized with Center for Book Arts. The exhibition was reviewed in the New York Times and was accompanied by a fully illustrated scholarly catalogue.

In 2020, I co-founded Book Art Review with Center for Book Arts. After editing the first two issues of the magazine, I now remain an advisor. My writing appears in ArtReview, Artforum.com, art-agenda, Art in America, Fine Books & Collections, Frieze, Hyperallergic, NY Review of Books, LA Review of Books, White Review, Art in Print, and elsewhere.

I have led and participated in public conversations on artist’s publishing and books with the Brooklyn Rail, Center for Book Arts, Printed Matter, Hill Art Foundation, and others. I have been invited to speak to undergraduate and graduate classes about artists’ books and criticism at SMFA Tufts, the New School, Boston University, Mills College, and elsewhere. Additionally, I’ve run workshops for artists and writers on self-archiving and writing artists’ book criticism.

I was a 2023 Visual AIDS Research Fellow and a 2019-20 AICA/USA and Creative Capital/The Andy Warhol Foundation’s Arts Writing Workshop participant. I have an MA in Art History, with distinction, from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London, and a BA in English from Dickinson College, PA.
